As part of our ‘Then & Now’ series, Rosemarket Local History Society looks at the site of the former New Inn public house on the corner of West Street.
The New Inn
‘Old Pembrokeshire’ by Roger W Davies is a collection of postcards of Pembrokeshire towns and villages. His book was published in 1988 and comprises postcards from his own private collection. On page 33, there is a reference to Rosemarket.
Mr Davies writes; “Postcards of small Pembrokeshire villages of the type shown are quite hard to come by. The village here is Rosemarket, or Rhosmarket as it was spelt then. The New Inn is on the right, and the licensee at the time was George Venables.
The photograph (below) was probably taken around 1906”.
With the kind permission of the current owner of what was formerly the New Inn on the corner of West Street, Rosemarket Local History Society has photographed the building from the same perspective as the photograph from 1906.
